Hallo from across the pond!

The pub where we are accessing our free Wi-Fi is getting ready to close so this will be a quick and brief update.

We made it to London yesterday around noon... well, Heathrow that is. After getting through long lines at immigration, finding our luggage, and taking the Tube to our hotel (Mind the Gap!), it was more like 3:00 p.m... or 15:00 as the British say. We explored the area around our hotel last night (Gloucester Road stop for those familiar with London, which is pronounced Glow-ster for those of you who aren't). We also decided to go down near the Thames River and came up from the Tube station right next to Parliament. Then, I looked up, and said, "Whoa, that's Big Ben!!" Typical American Tourist. :)

Today, we woke up early and had the typical British breakfast - bacon (although it looked like ham), sausage, eggs, toast, tomato, and beans. So, pretty much I ate the bacon, toast, and a little of the tomato and eggs, although I tried the beans and sausage too. I think I'll be eating pastries or cereal from now on. Jeremy seemed to really enjoy everything but the beans. Something about beans for breakfast is just odd! Sorry British friends! For lunch we had Italian, and for dinner, Spanish tapas. It's nice to be in an international city.

We took a trip on the London Eye today - that's the huge Ferris Wheel - and it was SO WORTH IT. We saw beautiful views of London and we lucked out that today was a super clear day (except for that one rain sprinkle this afternoon of course). After that, we took the hop-on, hop-off bus tour and found many more things we want to look at in closer detail. Most of the day was spent doing this and the river tour that was included. We saw Buckingham Palace, some horse carraiges from the Royal Mews, the Tower of London, the London Bridge (actually ugly), and the Tower Bridge (that's the one you think is London Bridge). We also made the obligatory stop at the Hard Rock Cafe for shot glasses, which is pretty cool since it is the original HRC in the world.

The patriots out there will be happy to know that we DID actually see a parade today... but it was a gay pride parade. Still fun, still closed roads... just not quite the same feel. Not that there's anything wrong with that! Hopefully we won't see fireworks tonight, haha.

Tomorrow, off to Cambridge! We have our train tickets booked. We'll probably do a little more sightseeing in the morning but we have two more weekends in London as well - thank goodness because there is TOO much to do in one weekend. I also promise to upload pics when I have time!

"Talk" to you again soon! Hope you all are having a wonderful Fourth - I know we did!

  1. I love British breakfasts, although some places serve it with blood pudding (which I could do without). Have fun!
