Cambridge, Week 2

Our second week in Cambridge was a great one. We had a ton of fun, and managed to get Flat Ralphie in a bunch of pictures as well.

We went to see Hamlet in the park. I had planned to take more pictures since they said "No flash photography" and that should mean pictures are ok without a flash, right? Um, no, I discovered after getting called out by the usher. Too bad because it was awesome. In any case, here's Ralphie wishing he could have been on stage.

The next day we went to the Cambridge Folk Museum as well as the Kettle's Yard. I don't have any pictures of Kettle's Yard because, again, they don't let you take any. However, it was a very cool exhibit. It was a house that belonged to a former Tate Modern curator who used it to educate Cambridge students about art. You can access a virtual tour here: http://www.kettlesyard.cam.ac.uk/tour/

I had to take this picture of Jeremy because he looked very much like a professor.

The Cambridge Folk Museum was a fun way to spend the afternoon. It looked at life in Cambridgeshire over time. They had a special exhibit about the 1960's which included costumes to dress up in. Jeremy looked like someone out of Mad Men, and I looked like... well, judge for yourself.

That evening, Ralphie joined us, Sheyda, and Caroline for a pint and dinner at the Eagle. The Eagle is Cambridge's most famous pub. Watson and Crick announced the discovery of DNA here, and the back room is filled with grafitti from Air Force men from World War II.

Ralphie ordered fish and chips and an ale. Sorry, Marcy, we're corrupting him. :)

Ralphie also decided to stop and deposit some mail on the way home.

One last picture from our second week in Cambridge. There was a HUGE punt traffic jam one evening right around 5:00. It was hilarious watching the inexperienced tourists try not to crash into each other, while the experienced professionals glided straight through. If you've seen the nice pictures I've posted in the past where you might see two punts on a busy day, you could imagine how crazy this was... especially when I tell you there were just as many in the other direction!

Looking ahead - our next post will be about our London field trip with the students and our three day weekend in Manchester/Liverpool.
